Winter Moth
Winter Moth was introduced in the United States from Europe and has been defoliating trees in Massachusetts for many years now. Winter moth is particularly destructivedue to its feeding habits. It hatches in early spring and starts feeding while buds are young and highly susceptible to damage. The inch worm moves from bud to bud feeding on immature foliage. In high populations these inch worms are capable of defoliating trees year after year leading to tree mortality.
